TNO is an independent research organisation. We believe in the joint creation of economic and social value. We focus on transitions or changes in five social themes. One theme is Energy, for faster progress towards a low-carbon energy system.
TNO participates and has participated both as coordinator and partner, in a large number of national and international research programs, including many FP7 and H2020 projects.
INVOLVEMENT IN SMART GRID
Within the energy domain the TNO Sustainable Energy System Integration roadmap focusses on Smart Grids, electricity and heat, and related ICT technologies. The Flexibility Aggregation Platform (FAP) that TNO develops in Interflex strengthens our competencies in the smart grid domain.
MAIN TASK ATTRIBUTED IN THE PROJECT
- TNO together with Enexis and ElaadNL, create the Dutch Eindhoven Strijp-S Use case demonstration.
- In this use case local flexibilities, from electric vehicles (EVs) and a big battery, are aggregated to be exploited on (future expected) electricity markets in combination to offer grid services to DSOs, like congestion management.
- For this use case TNO develops an overall actor and system architecture, focusing on the standard/universal ICT interfaces and market design.
- From this system TNO is developing the Flexibility Aggregation Platform (FAP), that interfaces to local flexibility sources and to (future) electricity markets and DSOs.
In this FAP new EV and flexibility planning algorithms will be implemented and tested.
